Social Media Specialist

Experience Waterloo is looking for a motivated and creative Social Media Specialist to join our team. In this role, you’ll be instrumental in working to develop social media strategies to promote Waterloo, increase visitation, instill community pride and showcase our amazing city to visitors and residents.

You’ll be responsible for creating and scheduling engaging content, monitoring performance, and analyzing data to improve our approach. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about all things social media and wants to make a real impact. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Content Creation: Create engaging and visually appealing content for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and our website.
  • Platform Management: Assist with the day-to-day management of social media accounts, including scheduling posts and monitoring comments and messages.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track and report on key social media metrics to analyze performance and identify trends.
  • Community Engagement: Help foster a positive and engaged online community by interacting with followers.
  • Digital Marketing Support: Assists with website updates such as blogs, listings, and images. Assists with monthly blogs, email newsletters.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, interactive media, marketing or similar and/or  2-5 years’ experience producing engaging content, such as videos, graphics, and text, for social media platforms and websites.
  • Experience with creating content for social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
  • A strong understanding of social media trends, best practices and analytics tools.
  • Excellent written communication skills and a keen eye for detail.
  • Comfortable interacting with the public and possessing excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ideal candidates will have a base understanding of video & photography, as well as editing, to ensure quality content promoting a great community.
  • Digital photography for print and longer format videography skills are a plus, with potential to grow this skill.
