May is here and summer is near! School is almost out and festival season is about to kick off with classic events like FridayLoo and the 4th Street Cruise. Check out this list of all the fun things to do this May and we’ll see you out there!

National Astronomy Day 

May 3rd @ 7:00 PM – 9:30 PM | Bluedorn Science Imaginarium 

FREE Event with Suggested Donations of $5

The Grout Museum and the Black Hawk Astronomy Club are bringing back their Star Parties this summer and they’re kicking off the stargazing season with a special celebration of National Astronomy Day at the Bluedorn Science Imaginarium! 

Explore the wonders of the universe in their Mobile Star Lab, participate in astronomy-themed activities and crafts, and survey the night sky through a telescope. This evening of celestial fun is FREE to attend, but a suggested donation of $5 at the door is welcomed! Don’t miss out on this stellar experience for the whole family! Click HERE for more!

Mother’s Day Brunch 

May 11th @ 9:00 AM – 1:30 PM | Waterloo Convention Center 

TICKETS AVAILABLE 

Come celebrate Mother’s Day at the Waterloo Convention Center! Treat your mom to a special All-You-Can-Eat buffet prepared by the convention center’s talented Food and Beverage team. A limited bar will also be available and charged separately! Reservations are required for this event and payment works a bit differently so please click HERE.

Tour De Loo 

May 15th @ 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM | Downtown Waterloo

$25 for a 2 Person Team

Main Street Waterloo is combining history, adventure, and friendly competition to bring you an all new event, Tour De Loo: A Scavenger Hunt. Main Street Waterloo has collaborated with the City of Waterloo’s Historic Preservation to create this interactive experience, showcasing Downtown Waterloo and its historic preservation. 

A social celebration will be held at the Sullivan Brothers Museum 6:30 PM with awards and prizes being handed out at 7:30 PM. To learn more about the scavenger hunt or to purchase tickets click HERE.

FridayLoo 

May 23rd @ 5:30 PM – 9:30 PM | Lincoln Park

FREE Admission

Cold drinks? Tasty food? Free live music? FridayLoo returns with all these things and more to make your summer Fridays chill and fun! The first FridayLoo of the season will be played by local favorites- Dead Presidents. Admission is FREE, but food and drinks are available to be purchased by vendors. 4th Street Cruise

May 23rd-24th | 4th Street


For over 40 years, the 4th Street Cruise has been a staple summer event for families and vintage automobile enthusiasts throughout the area. Bring your family and bring your chair There will be music and food down at National Cattle Congress on May 23rd prior to the parade of classic cars on May 24th.
